ChChCh Changes Are Afoot At Reading Civic Concert Band
The Reading Civic Concert band has experienced numerous changes this year. Last spring, the band reluctantly said to goodbye to long-time, much loved conductor Lucinda Ellert. After an extensive search for Ellert’s replacement, the band found Catherine Hofius, who immediately won over the hearts of the players and audience alike with her youthful exuberance, and her musical talents. This spring, the winds of change began to blow once again for the band when Catherine had to resign her position as conductor due to unforeseeable circumstances. Lucinda Ellert has returned to lead the band through these new changes until we find our next conductor.
With so much change in conductors afoot, our concert schedule had to change too. Our fall and winter concerts changed into one Midwinter concert in January. And new this year, the band added the annual Town of Reading MLK Day Celebration to its performance schedule. Our annual Mother’s Day Concert has changed into a Spring concert this June. Change is afoot and the Reading Civic Concert band has embraced it.
The theme for the Spring concert is, as you may have already guessed (drum roll please), CHANGE! From pieces with complex changes in time signatures to numerous changes in key signature, each of our musical choices relate to our theme of change. The band will play some familiar music as well as some music new to our repertoire. Please come and help the band embrace the changes that are afoot.
